News Link Dump – Presidential Election Special

Trash Heap News reporting for DOODY.

Finally relieved that America could shed its reputation as an arrogant war-mongering state, celebrations broke out all over the globe. Crowds cried, couples kissed, babies were born and, in some areas of the globe, the dead was raised.

History was made 11PM Tuesday night when Barack Obama won the race to the White House. The first African-American president of the United States of America trounced his rival in a landslide election sure to ripple throughout time.

Republican rival John McCain, who was left teary-eyed at his concession speech, congratulated the president elect and pledged his service to him despite the misgivings of his followers.

Even while optimism reigned – Obama reminded, in his own speech, that the planet is in environmental peril, an economic crisis needs resolving and American soldiers need respite.

He reminded the country of its foibles in the past century, as well as its wealth of progress. Women’s suffrage, civil rights, a man on the moon … an inspiring speech that put tears in many eyes and food in my beard.

After pontificating the progress sure to occur in the country’s next hundred years, Obama ran through the streets, children in tow, jumped a park bench, ran up a set of stairs and shook the hand of running mate and vice president elect Joe Biden.

Surely, a new dawn arrives for America. Who knows what the future brings?

Words tell the news but links tell the story.
